An overt reference to Ring Masters or オーダイルＶＳカメックス！すもうバトル！！ Ordile VS Kamex! Sumo Battle!!
Basically, Ash and Snorlax compete in a Pokemon sumo championship, one of the very very few times 4Kids are forced to openly acknowledge Pokémon's Japanese roots. And surprisingly, they kept Raiden (the trainer who owned the Feraligatr Ash fought against) and Shinnosuke's names intact.
Shame an awesome episode was handled by Kinomi Sakurai and Yoshitaka Fujimoto (one of Pokémon's cheaper animators and storyboard directors; infamous for being horribly off-model - see the short-lived Shin Megami Tensei Devil Children anime for examples).
The poem on the left by the way is something I heard before in a non-fictional documentary following young Takuya Ogushi's attempts to enter the sumo profession. Look up A Normal Life: Chronicle of A Sumo Wrestler if you're interested to see more...
