I've been asked to post up the original Mercurius Wetterby artwork from 2008. It's lucky I saved my commentary from those days:
"Triggered by a passing comment that says (all too truthfully) fish anthros don't get enough press, this was something I decided to rectify during some tough times recently.
Homaging Sailor Mercury's Shine Aqua Illusion (beautifully reanimated for Sailor Moon R: Promise of a Rose) and Sailor Neptune's Deep Submerge, this is Mercurius Wetterby in action, Poseidon's Atlantic Wrath being his favourite (and most powerful) ability. The water-based alchemist can combine hydrogen and oxygen in the air, meaning he is one of very few fish Critters who is comfortable on land and can refresh himself simply by utilising the gauntlet on his left hand wrist. Mercurius did wear a costume originally, a Japanese-esque armour based affair, but since he's scaly and well, huge at 13ft and 730lbs (half a ton), why would he wear any? In the end, an old ship's sail and rigging were used to make something similiar to a wrestler's singlet, only he flexed out of that, so he wears the tattered remains.
Mercurius loves the classical arts, but also likes to spar. The reason for his size stems from the fact that he actually lives right at the bottom of the sea; the intense water pressure from above saw him and his undefined specie bulk up considerably to cope, hence why he's so formidable above-water and often accidentally breaks stuff. He and Peyra argue a lot, but their differences make them quite good friends beneath the bravado. His favourite food is sashimi (crab sticks)
Three days drafting and colouring, all on Photoshop CS. Messing with brushes is fun. Enjoy this clean one. :3."
Seems I had a lot more free time on my hands then. Shame really, I had fun doing this one.
